Key Duties/Responsibilities:

    • To design and develop product area, as directed by Head of Department.
    • To continually be aware of market trends both internally (within JD Group) and externally (competition)
    • To visit JD Stores on a regular basis.
    • To take responsibility for the performance of his/her designed range.
    • Be aware of new factories and their techniques (i.e. new washes, print or embroidery techniques)
    • Work in partnership with Graphic Designer and Development Team
    • To visit Trade Shows and retail both within the UK and overseas to gain an overview of future trends.
    • Work in conjunction with Graphic Designer on Tech Pack, which is then handed over to Developer to enable factories to produce accurate prototypes and costings.
    • To take responsibility for the overall fit and finish of prototype samples with Developer before style goes into production.
    • Present detailed line art of ranges to the nominated Buyer, once in receipt of design brief (from Dept. Head), whilst also constantly updating any winning styles on a weekly basis, using Sales information.
    • Work with marketing on styling suggestions for any marketing/advertising material, by presenting tear sheets /mood boards.
    • Delegate work to any junior designers or student placements, so that they can gain work experience.
    • Visit factories where appropriate to keep up with manufacturing techniques.
    • Use trend prediction agencies such as WGSN to propose colour palettes etc.
    • To work within the critical path when possible to improve lead times
    • Constantly update visual aids to buyer, management , marketing , merchandising and retail to ensure everyone is aware of monthly product drops.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge needed:

    • Design experience with either a major brand or importer supplying High St. retail is essential.
    • Knowledge/experience of PLM is an advantage.
