Matalan was founded in Liverpool over 30 years ago and it's that same passion and determination that John Hargreaves built our business on that remains at our heart – now with over 220 stores and departments across Mens, Ladies, Kids, Ath-leisure and Home. Matalan is a destination store for style, quality and value that our customers recognise us for. As an out of town retailer we allow our customers to enjoy beautiful, quality fashion in convenient locations at up to half the price of the high street retailers.

Right now, Matalan is stepping in to a new age and embracing the changing face of retail and we're looking to attract new talent to our business across some key disciplines including Design at our Head Office in Liverpool.

We're currently recruiting for a Senior Designer to join us at Head Office to cover maternity leave, acting as a key support for the Design Manager managing, designing and developing the Menswear ranges, driving product and 'key looks' that reflect the current market and Matalan's customers.

You'll be asked to undertake factory visits and attend Trade and Trend shows, providing detailed feedback to the Buying teams and will regularly complete directional and competitive shopping trips both in the UK and abroad, producing full reports and feedback to the wider business.

By managing and developing the company ‘key looks', you'll liaise with suppliers on trends and design details, working closely with Retail and Marketing to ensure these ‘looks' and messages are conveyed to the customer. You'll review design ranges to ensure the 'balance' of the colour palette is continually reflected and will take responsibility for the development of the seasonal colour palettes and colour palette direction.

Taking an active role in the management of the team, you'll address any issues such as the content of design packs and will advise on any technical information required, monitoring the progress of the team and arranging any necessary training as needed.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, multi product Menswear Designer with a strong proven background working within a retail environment. You'll be able to use InDesign, Adobe CC Illustrator & Photoshop programmes to an advanced level and knowledge of the Easyweave programme would be advantageous. You'll demonstrate the ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines, managing a demanding and varied workload and will possess excellent interpersonal skills, communicate successfully at all levels and have experience of presenting at an Executive level.

In the event that a high volume of suitable applications are received, the post may close prior to the specified closing date. Please apply as soon as possible if interested.
