We are currently recruiting for a Garment Technologist to join the Childrenswear Technical Services team on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. As a Garment Technologist you’ll work closely with the relevant Buying department in order to develop and update products whilst maintaining quality standards, ensuring Matalan product provides excellent value for money for its customers.

A key aspect of the role will be to maintain responsibility for all aspects of quality for our Kids product ranges and to set quality standards and specifications to ensure Matalan achieves its goal of delivering outstanding value to its customers, contributing to continued growth for the company.

By educating our supplier base, you’ll ensure product performance requirements are established and maintained through continuous testing and monitoring and will agree manufacturing methods that are achievable in bulk production, resulting in products that will perform to requirements after purchase.

Working closely with the Buying department, you’ll aim to build new quality initiatives into products to constantly improve the customer offer and will ensure that Matalan sizing policy is maintained consistently across products and sizing is regularly reviewed, where applicable.

We will require the successful candidate to undertake supplier visits to improve quality standards, building strong working relationships and increasing personal knowledge of manufacturing capabilities and developments. Using your initiative and creative thinking to solve manufacturing and/or supplier issues would also be essential for this role.

We’re looking for candidates with relevant, practical experience within a QA/QC department specialising in Kids clothing and accessories. You’ll have experience of fitting garments and/or pattern cutting within a manufacturing or retailing environment and have strong PC skills, preferably with knowledge of Microsoft Office packages. Excellent verbal and written communication skills paired with the ability to influence and negotiation at all levels would also be essential for the role.

In the event that a high volume of suitable applications are received, the post may close prior to the specified closing date. Please apply as soon as possible if interested.
