Your new company
They are a well-established multi-channel retail organisation. With a successful portfolio of stores throughout the UK, the E-tail / E-commerce part of the business is about to undertake an exciting phase of growth, and now is the time to be part of this journey. They are seeking an experienced and driven Buyer to join their team and take control of several of their highest profile categories in the general merchandise team.
Your new role
You key responsibility will be to ensure that the buying function is maintained effectively, accurately and productively. You must be able to demonstrate a good degree of analytical and numerical ability, as well as a strong commercial awareness to be able to make sound decisions in this product area. You are required to be able to source and negotiate the best possible products, create a productive strategy and range plan to implement across stores and online. Establish new lasting relationships with suppliers keeping product ranges and costings in place. You will manage department gross margin with timely price actions to maximise product life cycle and ensure a clean and profitable exit. You will also work closely with the merchandising and marketing teams to ensure stock levels are maintained and the best possible products are launched. You will be involved in presenting range reviews throughout the year. You will also get to travel to relevant trade shows both nationally and internationally. You will also manage Buying Assistants and oversee their performance appraisals and reviews.
What you'll need to succeed
You are required to have proven experience within a similar role, having focused in Buying for a multi-channel retailer. Ideally you will have retail buying experience in a general merchandise category such as DIY, Pet Products, Workwear, but others will be considered. Either way, you will be experienced in both far east sourcing as well as sourcing from Europe and Domestic suppliers. You will be commercially focused, with the ability to manage a team and develop a short to long term category strategy. Additionally you will be an excellent decision maker and have strong analytical and numerical skills.
