Sales Manager – Retail Products, Hobby and Craft Sector

Elland, West Yorkshire – or working from home if preferred.

Vlieseline, formerly Vilene, are brands of the world wide Freudenberg Performance Materials group. For decades, the name Vilene, now Vlieseline, has been synonymous with interfacings and has become the product of choice for dressmakers, quilters, tutors artists and makers.

The Role:

Reporting to the MD, UK Apparel Division, your main focus will be to gain a solid understanding of Interlining product technology and its applications within the retail hobbyist / craft sector, and to identify potential opportunities in synergetic markets, whilst simultaneously managing and developing an existing key client portfolio. 

  • Develop markets within an existing and prospective account base, building strong client relationships that have an overriding focus on customer service.
  • Effectively manage a sales area, promoting products to existing & potential customers and strategic partners to achieve planned sales & contribution objectives.
  • Develop a keen understanding of the Interlinings sector, keeping abreast of new trends and developments and using market knowledge to negotiate and agree pricing strategies across market segments.
  • Development of sales plans and targets, reporting performance against plan to Board level.
  • Collect, assess & report on market intelligence across the sector and participate in the Business Management team, including business reviews of markets & sales.
  • Close liaison with R&D,Technical Service functions, Marketing strategic partners and other stakeholders to ensure the achievement of customer needs and specifications and to develop market potential.
  • Liaise with sales administration team to facilitate and effectively satisfy customer needs, production planning, and supply chain management.
  • Organise UK trade shows promotions and Marketing initiatives with occasional business trips to Germany.

The Candidate:

  • Educated to degree/HND level or equivalent in an appropriate commercial, technical or business environment and with a proven ability to understand, sell and market technical products.
  • Knowledge of the Apparel, Hobby/Craft or Retail Industry.
  • Proven ability to understand markets and business and of developing customer relationships to deliver profitable growth.
  • Solid exposure to operating through third party distributors or agents.
  • Naturally gregarious and tenacious with a strong focus on communications and networking you will possess commercial awareness, and the ability to gather and interpret market information developing and presenting market analyses that align sales and marketing strategy to overall business objectives.
  • High order communication skills - able to communicate effectively to internal and external audiences.
