Materials and Colour Technologist


You will play a critical role in researching and compiling all materials and trims alongside coordinating trend information in line with brand requirements You will work collaboratively with the Production and Sourcing teams to create innovative materials and trims You will overseeing all aspects of colour and materials development for the design team


Material and trims research

• You will use your knowledge of materials, costs, components and the company image to create materials, trims and colour presentations in line with the seasonal creative direction

• Support the research and development teams

• Create and manage a trims and materials library, including sustainable options

• Excellent organisation skills required to compile and maintain materials library Trend research • Compile trend information

• Attend industry trade shows, both locally and internationally

• You will ensure you keep up to date with online trends

• Create trend presentations that are both compelling and inspiring Colour research

• A good understanding of international colour trends

• Explore colour trends in line with Dr. Martens core values and present options for discussion

• Review and compile relevant colour and trend information in an inspiring format Research & Development

• Carry out research into trends, materials, leather, technology and colour

• Assist in the creation of the seasonal direction document

• Work closely with production and sourcing teams to create innovative materials and trims Communication

• Produce presentations of material, colour and trim trends

• Present findings from tradeshows to the team

• Able to work with a wide a variety departments across the company to realise project

• Responsibile for presenting your design assets for design reviews

To be our Materials and Colour Technical Trend Researcher you will also possess these qualities:

- College or University graduate from Design, Fabric Tech, Textiles

- 3-5 years+ industry experience desirable

- Excellent administrative skills

- Good knowledge of leather and material constructions

- Software: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop desirable.

- A Good industry knowledge of trend agencies and suppliers

- Strong communication skills and experience interacting with other departments and adjusting to changing team strategies. Ability to efficiently and accurately interpreted trends and present

- Self-motivated with excellent time management and organisational skills to work in a fast-paced environment
