Senior Buyer Womenswear

A major global brand is seeking a Buying Manager to lead their Womenswear category ( £100mill+).

This is an expat position based in Dubai.

Buying Manager/Senior Buyer Womenswear: 


Product development & Range building:
▪ Build & communicate product (multi-product) strategy per season and long-term
▪ Build Strong understanding of trend & customer with an ability to commercially adapt the fashion for fast turn-around
▪ Improve department efficiency by proactively taking measures to reduce time, cost, identify & resolve issues
▪ Working with planning, design, marketing E-commerce, VM, sourcing, quality and retail teams to ensure right product, at right time, in
right quantity and in right store is placed in the most effective manner.
▪ Liaising with Apparel/non-apparel teams to ensure a wholistic and coherent product proposition for customers
▪ Overseeing the range plan for ensuring relevance and cost effectiveness
Buying Budget and Planning
▪ Determine buying requirements and formulate buying plan and budget for the assigned department/category
▪ Align the buying plan to the overall department/category business plan and the merchandize strategy as laid down by the function head
▪ Responsible for sales & profit targets by ensuring timely procurement of merchandise & effective stock control (through working closely
with planning/logistics/retail/sourcing on budgeting, mark-down,In take margin, OTB management, in-store, etc)
▪ Ensuring that entire buying strategy is as per the buying budget with approporiate phasing and coherent with size of the buying
▪ Responsible for entire Critical path process management starting from Merchandise strategy meetings to order placement to ensure
quality and timeliness of all Critical path milestones
Order & Vendor Management:
▪ Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers and negotiate the best deals with them for procuring merchandise
▪ Maintain contact with vendors; update list of vendors for bidding purposes; attend product demonstrations, obtain samples and
literature regarding potential products and vendor capabilities and confer with end users
▪ Pursue cost reduction measures through centralized bulk buying and/ or selecting appropriate vendor mix, scanning the environment for
benchmarks and constantly improving the purchase process
▪ Provide inputs to sourcing department for group/department sourcing strategy
▪ Ensure department compliance to product requirement, company processes etc in collaboration with sourcing
Market Research and Competitor Benchmarking
▪ Conduct regular store visits in own stores across territories for feedback & in competition stores to benchmark product ranges, quality, &
▪ Keep abreast of the latest fashion trends in buying and applying the same during range building
▪ Drive better customer understanding through store/online surveys, focus group meetings & loyalty programme analysis
People Management
▪ Develop and grow talent within department and support team by providing consistent direction and support to achieve stretch targets
and take leadership positions
▪ Retain and engage the talent employed and build a collaborative and high performance team
▪ Enhance team productivity through recognition,skills development and coaching
▪ Ensure objective periodic administration of the performance appraisal process followed by monitoring of feedback implementation for
the team

Buying Manager/Senior Buyer: Womenswear: The candidate:
▪ 15-20 years of experience in the retail industry and at least 5 years of leadership experience ideally in the UK/Europe within large retail/brand format
▪ Strong product knowledge in womenswear
▪ Strong customer and trend understanding
▪ Advanced retail analytical skills
▪ Strong sourcing and range building skills
▪ Strong influencer and communicator with ability to interact within cross functional team and with multiple stakeholders across functions
and levels
▪ Negotiation and vendor management skills
▪ Risk management skills
▪ Innovative & critical thinking ability
▪ People management- ability to coach and guide team on goals, performance and growth
▪ Desired: Multiple category exposure
▪ Ability to thrive in a multicultural environment
