Senior Designer
As Senior Designer, you be working closely with the Creative Director to take forward initial inspirational ideas and build a cohesive seasonal RTW collection reflecting creative strength and newness. The role will work closely with the Collection Development team to ensure design handovers are clear and critical paths are adhered to.
The successful designer will have a minimum of 6 years design experience in Women's RTW (daywear and occasionwear) balancing creativity with commercial needs to support the growth of the business.
This is an initial 6 month fixed term contract based in Central London for a Ready-to-Wear brand selling worldwide and with a strong LA customer base.
What you will be doing...
- Prepare relevant and creative research on themes, colours, fabrics, prints & embroideries around the seasonal brief.
- Initiate original design sketches, following the Creative Director's seasonal brief.
- Research and maintain knowledge of relevant womenswear trends and history and advise on silhouettes, finishes and suitability of fabrics etc.
- Design product that conforms to the range plan and creative vision of the brand.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the sales team to ensure commerciality of collection and range plan and with Product Development and Production to respect margin expectations.
- Participate and collaboratively assist in fittings, managing the prototype process with the design and development teams.
- Help coordinate the design team and allocate work appropriately to ensure deadlines and design quality is maintained.
- Working closely with the Collection Development team to ensure compliance of critical paths.
- Work in conjunction with the development team to ensure that design to fabric gives a merchandised and balanced collection for sales with all price points and categories respected.
- Strong hand sketching ability.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic creative team.
- Strong understanding of the design process and attention to deadlines and critical path.
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Degree in Fashion Design specialising in Womenswear.
- A minimum of 6 year's luxury level design experience in Women's RTW.
- An excellent eye for colour and shape and a feel for fabrics, colour, trim, print and embroideries.
- Good basic knowledge of pattern, drape and garment construction.
- Intermediate to advanced hand sketching ability.
- Experienced in working closely with a Creative Director to interpret the seasonal theme, adhering to the collection plan and margin requirements.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to express ideas clearly and confidently across the business.
- Exceptional organization skills and ability to prioritise, delegate and achieve the critical path.
- A flexible, positive, team player with a can-do attitude and 360 approach.
- Ability to multi-task with strong initiative and time-management skills.
- Self-motivated with good initiative and persistence in achieving objectives.
