Milano was formed in 1991. A family business forged in the passion for gymnastics and imaginative marketing. After securing the sponsorship of the British Gymnastics team in 1996, Milano became a household name and major influencer in the gymnastics industry.
Milano was sold to Signature Fabrics in October 2019, experts in the field of technical sports fabrics, and digital print technology. With the new owners keen to implement upgrades to every aspect of the Milano business model, in a few short months Milano has been able to deliver a new website, a factory shop, a brand new range of entry level leotards, a network of European distributors and a wholesale “root and branch” replacement of the accounting and computer systems - all this while adhering to COVID-19 restrictions!
Our Mission Statement
Milano are committed to manufacturing the most exciting, highest quality leotards, whilst providing the most all-inclusive choice, satisfying all skill and price levels. We will do this whilst remembering our environmental, ethical and sustainable responsibilities regarding the fabrics we use, the crystals we decorate with, the quality of inks, dyes and foils used in our manufacturing processes. We are proud to be a British manufacturer, adhering to all employment codes, including employee salaries and working conditions.
We manufacture all our leotards at our own factory located in the North West of England. We do not employ any persons not of employable age. All our employees are remunerated to a level which meets and / or exceeds requirements set out by United Kingdom legislation.
We produce all our leotards with careful consideration given to every component used. Wherever possible we use Italian branded Lycra fabrics. The inks in our prints are water based to avoid any pollutants and toxic emissions. We now only use high quality triple “AAA” glass crystal rhinestones to eliminate any micro-plastic pollution through the use of widely used traditional plastic stones.
Our new fitness range (launching January 2021) is centred around a beautiful fabric call “Vita”. Translated to meaning “life” this fabric has been made using discarded fishing nets which have been recovered from the bottom of European seas, and recycled into textile grade yarn. Any purchase of these garments helps us support one of our chosen charities, “Healthy Seas” which does amazing work to heal our oceans of plastic pollution.
