Senior Childrenswear Designer

We are working closely with a leading international fashion supplier who is looking to recruit a talented and commercially minded Senior Designer to join their growing design team in Manchester.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Designer with a strong understanding of product, fabric and emerging trends, who can confidently work across both girls' and boys' apparel.

Our client is particularly interested in designers with a versatile design handwriting, strong product development knowledge and the ability to research, interpret and adapt trends to suit different customers and markets.

Whilst childrenswear experience would be advantageous, we are equally open to candidates from womenswear or menswear backgrounds who can demonstrate strong commercial awareness, fabric knowledge and the flexibility to design across multiple product categories.

Working across woven, jersey and leisurewear, you will play a key role in developing trend-led collections for an international customer base. This role offers hybrid working.

Main Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Designing commercial, trend-led collections across girls' and boys' apparel.

  • Demonstrating a flexible design handwriting, adapting styles, trends and product direction to suit different customers, age groups and markets.

  • Researching emerging trends, fabric developments, competitor activity and market opportunities, translating findings into relevant and commercial collections.

  • Developing a strong understanding of product construction, fabrications, finishes and garment development across woven, jersey and leisurewear categories.

  • Taking ownership of design projects from initial concept through to development and production.

  • Confidently presenting design concepts, product ranges and fabric selections directly to customers, providing knowledgeable and commercially informed recommendations.

  • Producing inspirational mood boards, CADs, colour palettes, design concepts and detailed product specifications.

  • Working closely with the wider design, sales and product development teams to ensure collections meet customer expectations and commercial objectives.

  • Building strong relationships with customers, understanding their individual requirements and adapting designs accordingly.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience in a fashion design role, ideally at Senior Designer level, within childrenswear, womenswear or menswear.

  • Excellent product and fabric knowledge, with a strong understanding of garment construction, fabrications and commercial product development.

  • A versatile design handwriting with the ability to confidently adapt across girls' and boys' apparel and different customer aesthetics.

  • Strong trend research skills, with the ability to identify emerging trends and translate them into commercially successful ranges.

  • Confident communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work directly with customers and provide knowledgeable product recommendations.

  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of different customer markets and price points.

  • Proficiency in CAD and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop.
