Womenswear Designer
We are working with an established international supplier who are continuing to grow their presence in the UK and Europe. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and fast-evolving team, working within a growing supplier business that offers the pace and energy of a new division, alongside the support and infrastructure of a larger global organisation.
They are looking for a commercially minded Womenswear Designer to join their London team, working across soft separates, denim and jersey. This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced supplier environment, enjoys building strong customer relationships and is excited by the chance to be part of a business at an important stage of growth. You will be working closely with major UK retail customers and overseas manufacturing teams to deliver trend-led and commercially successful collections.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Designing commercially strong womenswear collections across soft separates, denim and jersey
- Presenting ranges, concepts and seasonal direction to buyers and managing those customer relationships on an ongoing basis
- Working closely with major UK customers including high street, supermarket and volume retail accounts to understand briefs and deliver against their requirements
- Identifying new product opportunities and contributing fresh ideas to support the continued growth of the division
- Researching seasonal trends, consumer insights, catwalk influences and competitor activity to create relevant and commercial product
- Developing seasonal concepts, colour palettes, fabric direction, washes, prints and key design details
- Producing detailed design packs, CADs and technical specifications for development and sampling
- Collaborating closely with merchandising, sourcing, technical teams and overseas factories to ensure products are developed in line with customer expectations and target costs
Person specification:
- Previous UK supplier experience is essential
- Proven experience presenting to buyers and confidently managing customer relationships
- Strong womenswear design experience across soft separates, denim and jersey
- Experience designing for major UK high street, supermarket or other volume-driven retail accounts
- Strong understanding of fabric development, garment construction, fit, washes and finishing techniques
- Highly commercial with the ability to translate trends into product that is right for the customer and price point
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and relevant design software
- Confident managing the design process from concept through to sample approval
