What the role is

To maximise sales and gross margin for areas of control and the wider business through analysis, planning and forecasting and in season trading. Act as key Merchandising contact and develop sound cross functional relationships with Buying, Finance, Distribution and Ecommerce. A role model best practice in merchandising and develop skills and knowledge of junior members of the merchandising team.

What you’ll be doing

Trading

  • LEAD, COACH and DEVELOP Ma’s and Am’s in your department driving them to achieve their progression goals and department targets. 
  • PROVIDE weekly summary of key performance indicators within departments of responsibility and the wider business, relating to sales, stock, profit, and markdown versus budget and last year 
  • MAINTAIN Department Weekly Stock Sales and Intake forecasts (WSSI) and review in season stock opportunities and risks in line with forecasts to maximise sales and reduce stocks i.e. OTB management, recodes, cancellations. SOR etc  and markdowns
  • PROVIDE analysis and summary of Markdown and Promotional activity for departments of responsibility and wider business
  • PRO-ACTIVELY manage department in line with trade activity to minimise risks and maximise opportunities for monthly and seasonal KPI’s 
  • INTERACT with other teams to improve seasonal performance and drive best practices
  • KEY contact for analysis and conclusions relating to departments of responsibility and the wider business
  • CONDUCT detailed ad-hoc and pro-active analytical analysis relating to all KPI’s and dependants 

Planning and Forecasting 

  • PARTNER with the buying teams to create lessons learnt and seasonal strategies for departments relating to all KPI’s
  • PRODUCE Seasonal Planning Forecasts for departments of responsibility and the wider business which are driven from historic analysis and strategic vision. Plans must aim to cover company vision, department strategy and financial goals of business
  • UPDATE Departments Seasonal Sales Plans and OTB
  • PRO-ACTIVELY track review opportunities and risks during seasonal buying periods, ensuring OTB, and strategies are being followed and flagging re-considerations
  • PRODUCE and update seasonal markdown planning documents, collate total departments proposals for review
  • CREATE seasonal planning packs to support OTB structure and seasonal strategy
  • OVERSEE buyers packs for departments of responsibility driving strategic questions for Buying in order to improve sales, sell through, profit, deliveries 
  • ANY OTHER ad hoc duties as reasonably requested

About you

  • Fluent in written and spoken English 
  • Specific experience in fashion retail merchandising preferably within multi-brand environment 
  • Advanced planning and analytical skills, including computer skills
  • Good judgement and decision making skills 
  • Confidence in suggesting calculated risks 
  • Strong customer awareness and understanding 
  • Solid team management skills
  • Passionate about product, strong market and brand awareness 
  • Discreet, professional and well spoken, with excellent communication skills 
  • Exceptionally organised, methodical and efficient
  • Time keeping & ability to meet stringent deadlines
