The apparel industry is a fast paced, exciting environment and one that attracts thousands of new graduates every year. Many students leave education with a sound academic foundation and an overall understanding of their chosen career path but lack the practical knowledge, skills and contacts needed to get a foot in the door.

Manchester based The Fashion Network, is a networking portal that aims to connect students, graduates and professionals in the fashion and apparel industry and supports and nourishes emerging talent by creating regular events and recruitment opportunities.

As part of their events calendar, The Fashion Network holds bi-annual careers fairs which give students and graduates the opportunity to meet potential employers. The event attracts national brands including boohoo.com, Matalan, Sainsburys and JD Sports and is attended by students from all over the UK.

Dale Hicks, Managing Director at The Fashion Network said,  ‘The event is held in Manchester as it’s a good central location for the whole of the UK but is also the home of some of the UK’s most flourishing e-commerce businesses including companies like Boohoo.com and the N Brown Group.’

‘It’s an excellent opportunity for candidates to meet with recruiters face to face to discuss job opportunities, CV’s’ and portfolios.  It’s also a great opportunity for recruiters to showcase their businesses to the jobs market.’

Melissa Hughes, Senior Recruitment Advisor, Matalan said, ‘We’ve been attending The Fashion Network events with Matalan since 2012 and they are one of the highlights of the career fair calendar for us. Held twice a year, the event attracts the very best the North West has to offer in trainee and experienced fashion candidates across Buying, Merchandising, Design, Technical Services and Marketing. Additionally, over the past 18 months, we have seen a significant increase in the number of candidates from further afield reinforcing the idea that more people are looking to the North West as a fashion hub.’

Karen Butterworth, Careers Consultant, The University of Manchester said, We’ve been involved with TFN careers events for over five years now and each year they get bigger and better. They are a fantastic opportunity for our students to talk directly with employers, get insider info and secure internships and graduate jobs in the fashion industry.’

''Kristi: Masters Student in Buying at Manchester Metropolitan University- It's been really useful to get face to face time with recruiters and great to get insight in to where the fashion industry is at at the moment'

The next Fashion Network careers fair is 13 April 2016 – 11 am till 3:30 pm at 2022NQ, The Basement, 20 Dale Street (entrance on Little Lever Street), Manchester, M1 1EZ
