Assistant Designer (Women’s Tailoring and Casualwear)
As Assistant Designer with exactly 2-3 years post-graduate experience, you will be supporting the Senior Designer with research, product design and tech pack creation across multi-product womenswear focused on tailoring and casualwear for a highly structured leading supplier.
The successful designer must have a great commercial eye for shape and fabric supported by outstanding presentation skills and high-level proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Indesign.
This is a temporary role to cover maternity leave and is expected to last 15 months or until the return of the post-holder, whichever is the earlier.
The role will begin remotely and transition part-time to the office as and when restrictions begin to ease.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the design of tailoring and casualwear collections for two leading retailers including jackets, jumpsuits, trousers, skirts, shorts and dresses.
- Researching and identifying the latest key trends to inspire and develop new ranges and complement and drive forward existing product lines.
- Developing concept ranges and samples through CAD creation from initial sketches through to technical packs and handovers following fits to give clear instructions to the sample room and factories in multiple regions, (intermediate to advanced Illustrator skills are essential).
- Create and update range plans to keep buyers and internal teams updated using InDesign.
- Trend research and development of trims from concept to manufacturing.
- General design support administration duties.
Skills and Requirements:
- Degree in Fashion Design followed by 2-3 years post-graduate experience in womenswear design, ideally for a supplier.
- High-level proficiency intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Indesign (essential), Illustrator (essential) and Photoshop.
- Experience designing for supermarket and high street retailers an advantage.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A confident, proactive approach capable of working effectively in a team under pressure in a demanding fast-paced environment.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
- Ability to interact effectively with suppliers and colleagues at all levels.
- Commutable distance to Camden tube.
