The role of Freelance Garment Technologist is responsible for ensuring development and production samples conform to fit, make, fabric, quality and sizing standards for this luxury Women's RTW Resort brand. Working closely with the design and production team, the role requires expertise in Women's Ready-To-Wear with an emphasis on dresses, skirts, tops, gowns, jumpsuits and if possible swimwear.
Start date: ASAP
1.5 days in the next week with ongoing ad hoc seasonal work
Nearest station: Hampstead
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain standard measurements and record and measure against spec for seasonal styles.
- Ensure fit and sizing is competitive.
- Maintain grading and sizing rules for each garment type.
- Ensure all technical specs are clear and all measurement requests are consistent with the standard measurements.
- Measure all samples prior to fitting to ensure they conform to the size specifications, flagging any variances.
- Attend fit meetings with the design and production team and ensure samples conform to the designer’s vision and are of the correct quality.
- Record all fit comments and update tech packs for the factories ensuring amendments are accurately reflected in future samples or production.
- Collaborate with the team to solve specific make or construction queries where required.
- Review and maintain consistency in sewing rules and discuss with the Production Manager.
Essential Skills
- Garment Technologist with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Women's Ready-to-Wear and preferably resortwear.
- Experience working on innovative and intricate silhouettes.
- Expertise fitting to Gold Seal standard.
- Excellent fabric knowledge across woven and jersey from delicate to structured fabrics including technical components and sewing techniques.
- Expertise in fitting garments and sending comments for amendments.
- Good working knowledge of pattern cutting is an advantage.
- Collaborative positive team player.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience analysing problems and offering solutions.
